About

Deschutes County Search and Rescue Inc. (SAR, Inc.) is the local non-profit 501c3 organization that supports the specialty training needs of Search and Rescue volunteers. SAR Inc. is the incorporated body of the volunteer rescuers that serve on the Deschutes County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Unit, and is officially recognized by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. We respond to search, rescue, and recovery calls free of charge, and without pay. While Deschutes County, Oregon is our home and primary territory, our teams are frequently called to assist with efforts in other counties.

In 2008, SAR Inc. volunteers logged 14,376.5 hours of service on 123 missions.  This includes searches, rescues, training, and administrative time.

Search and Rescue is a emergency operation, requiring professionally trained personnel. Our basic training for state certification is funded by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. However, Deschutes County utilizes a variety of specialized resources to manage and perform our operations as efficiently as possible. The high quality specialty training that enhances our performance in the field requires added commitment of volunteer time, as well as additional funding. SAR, Inc. offers financial aid to rescue volunteers by funding in part or in whole tuition for these specialty training opportunities.
